Mindfulness for Stress Reduction

Mindfulness is a way of dealing with life's challenges with greater calm and wisdom.  It is simply the practice of paying attention to what is happening in the moment, instead of being carried away by thoughts about the past or future.  It is now practiced in healthcare, education, business and sports.  

Mindfulness can help you feel better on all levels. Research shows that it can:

         * reduce stress

         * improve physical and mental health

         * improve communication and relationships

         * promote greater energy and enthusiasm for life

 This 6-week program involves:

         * A brief overview of mindfulness: What is it?  How does it work? 

         * How can it help me reduce stress in my personal life and in my work? 

         * Mindfulness practices, including both seated and movement practices

         * Strategies to bring mindfulness into everyday life

It is primarily practice-based, with teachings arising out of the participants' experience.  Therefore, it is suitable for those new to mindfulness and those wishing to continue their practice in a supportive environment.

         Thursdays, March 22  - May 3, 2018, 6:30-8:00 pm (no class April 26)

Fee:  $180. for 6 weeks (90 minute classes)

Level 2:  Deepening Practice

This 6-week program is for those who already have a foundation in mindfulness and wish to deepen their practice.

Dates and times:  Tuesdays, March 20 - May 8 (excluding April 3 & 24), 2018, 6:30 - 8:00 pm 

Fee:  $150. for 6 weeks (90 minute classes)

Level 3:  Deepening Insight

This 6-week program is for those who already have a foundation in mindfulness and wish to deepen their insight.In this course, we will be borrowing from Transpersonal Psychology and looking at the beliefs that drive our behaviour through a mindfulness lens. Identifying them can help us better manage our self-limiting behaviour.  

Dates and times:  Mondays, March 19 - May 7 (excluding April 2 & 23) 2018, 6:30 - 8:00 pm

Fee:  $150. for 6 weeks (90 minute classes)

Level 4:  Mindful Communication

One-to-One Mentoring

Anna is also available for one-to-one mentoring in mindfulness.  

Fee:  $85. per session

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction

These courses are unique in that they are specifically designed for health-care professionals.  Anna co-facilitates these courses with Valerie Spironello, M.S.W. each spring.

Mindfulness is studied and practised to enrich participants' personal lives and professional roles as healers and teachers.  They are offered through the Professional Faculty Development Program at McMaster University.

Anna also teaches Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) to healthcare staff and physicians at Hamilton Health Sciences. Healthcare professionals from the community are also invited to participate.  The next course is fall 2018.
